Flat foX-17 Portable a-Si Flat Panel X-ray Inspection System

Flatfox 17 setup with Golden x-ray generator

Flat foX-17 Flat Panel System

Vidisco Ltd., who has been the leading company in the field of one-man portable X-ray systems for the last two decades, has continued with its pioneering approach by adding a line of amorphous Silicon (a-Si) flat panel portable X-ray inspection systems for industrial, security and veterinarian applications, in addition to its traditional line of CCD based X-ray equipment. These a-Si systems translate into a true revolution for anyone doing field X-rays and looking for quality of images that can now be achieved in just seconds with a real time system.

The Vidisco Flat foX-17 and foX-Rayzor Flat Panel Systems are the first in the world that encompass the incredible resolution (10 times more than any CCD based system) and dynamic range (14 Bit systems offering 64 times more than any CCD based System) of flat panel technology, packaged into just one standard rugged carrying case. This case houses all system's components including battery operated pulsed X-ray source allowing for full 100% field operation and portability.

Vidisco leads the way in portable X-ray technology allowing operators to work in almost any environment, without external power and achieving excellent results with the highly portable line of Golden pulsed X-ray sources (100% battery operated) or even mini focal spot battery operated (or standard AC powered) continuous sources.

Coupled with a-Si panels, Vidisco has debuted in 2004 the first small battery operated portable Dual Energy inspection systems not only providing the absolute highest quality X-rays, but also being able to highlight organic substances such as explosives and drugs, and inorganic substances such as knives, batteries and detonators. Both the full size Flat foX-17 and super thin foX-Rayzor flat panel systems are interchangeable can be fully transported and set-up by one person in a couple of minutes providing the user with the highest quality images, rivaling or even surpassing what could once be achieved with film.

  • Fully battery operated, lightweight & small - The entire system fits into one carrying case!
  • Laptop driven flat panel system (No PCI Cards).
  • One single 50m lightweight cable on a removable reel connecting between the flat panel and laptop.
  • Large imaging area of 12" x 16" (28.4 x 40.6 cm).
  • Superb dynamic range of 14 Bits and excellent resolution - up to 4 lp/mm, 127 micron pixel size.
  • Wireless operation

The Flat foX-17 operates for over 2 hours on its rechargeable batteries and of course can operate for an unlimited time powered by any external power source 110/220V, or even a vehicle battery using an inverter.

The entire system is comprised of a Vidisco flat panel imager and ICU (Imager Control Unit), 50m of lightweight coiled cable on a removable reel, that connects between the imager and the computer, a state-of-the-art laptop computer and an X-ray source. All components are conveniently packaged into a weatherproof "Strom" case with roll-away wheels, with the case providing a protective operating platform protecting the computer and allowing the operator to work in difficult conditions.

The Vidisco proprietary software drives the hardware in a very unique fashion allowing for fast image reception and manipulation. Full control over the X-ray source operation from the system CDU eliminates repeated approaches to the object being X-rayed. Obviously, when working with a near real time system that provides images upon request, there is a huge time/cost advantage when comparing the Vidisco systems to any film based or CR technology. In many cases, the operator can complete a full X-ray examination with the Vidisco Flat foX-17 or foX-Rayzor systems in the time that it would take just to set up competing technology based equipment.

All images can be enhanced by using a wide variety of tools, and can be saved to the built-in database which automatically records a complete range of information (user name, date, time, place, type of imager, X-ray source, exposure time, category, project etc.), without the user having to physically enter most of the data. In addition, the user can enter a complete description or instructions for all images, and add a large range of annotations directly onto the image if desired, including unlimited vocal files which can be recorded on the spot. Afterwards, lightning quick software allows the user to view the images in a visual library, and more importantly, to be able to query (cut & slice) and sort the database by any one of the data parameters, or a combination of them, hence making the manipulation and finding of large data images, an instantaneous, easy and painless task.

The Vidsico built-in CD writing application, e-mail access, database backup and retrieval make the need for any additional software fully redundant.

The Flat foX-17 has an imaging area of 28.4 x 40.6 cm and allows for resolution of 4 line pair/mm.

The dynamic range is 14 Bit, allowing for the delineation of hairline cracks and production/wear imperfections by achieving truly incredible images - the highest possible quality with today's technology. Vidisco's unique Window Leveling tool allows the operator to choose a Region of Interest (ROI) and receive the optimal computer generated leveling for the area chosen, making the optimum use of up to 16,384 gray levels (14 Bit) provided by the system.
